Boldon C of E Primary School
'Save Our School' campaign
Saving the little school with a big heart (and a bigger voice!)
The matter of updating the website unfortunately took a backseat in October when all attentions were turned to producing the Stakeholders report which was handed into Town Hall on 30th November.
A rest was then taken over the festive season, but we are now tracking back through all that has happened and the News and Events sections are slowly coming up to date. There is plenty evidence of rushing to get details online from the poor spelling but the coming days will see articles reviewed, spelling corrected, stories padded out, pictures added and links provided to videos and news articles so please keep checking back.
However, we do not want you just to read ... we also want to hear your views on all that has happened during the campaign. You now have the ability to add comments to each article so get involved and let everyone know how you feel.
Boldon C of E Pupils in the nature garden
Not more than a week after a new year at Boldon C of E Primary School had started ... with nervous but excited reception starters getting used to venturing into the 'big school' playground, and even more nervous parents watching them take those tentative steps ... we have been rocked by the news that there is a proposal being considered to close our school in 2008.
Why? Because our council needs to look at the bigger picture of improving education across the whole borough, and to do that they need government investment. They have their eyes on an impressive £28 million pounds, but that money is directly linked to reducing surplus places within the borough.
So for the very reason parents will have chosen to place their children in Boldon C of E Primary School ... smaller classes where every child has a strong connection with their teacher ... the government is forcing our council's hand to close it.
We will be making an effort to get as many supporters to sign a petition showing the support for keeping Boldon C of E Primary School open.
"Where can I sign your petition?". Well I am truly glad you asked, petitions will be available at the following locations:
Signing our online petition will only take a few minutes and you get the added bonus of being able to leave a comment. For those shy bairns there is also an option to sign, but not have your details displayed online.
We have had over 320 signatures online alone, not counting the thousands collected in and around the community and in Asda.
