Fundraising Night at the Wheatsheaf

On Saturday the 2nd of February a fundraising night was held at the Wheatsheaf. Les once again very kindly allowed the team to use his pub as a venue providing a disco/karaoke for entertainment. A great time was held by all pledging support for the Save Our School campaign.

Its been a busy week for the campaign team this week making more steps forward to raise awareness of the plight of Boldon C of E School. The big stories ran by both television and newspapers this weeks has been the revelation that more small and rural schools are to close throughout the United Kingdom.

Local MPs Support

Not sure how long this has been on his website, but whilst browsing the Internet today I came across an article on Stephen Hupburn MP's website pledging support for our school.
Re-enactment of old traditions

Members of the SOS group, along with children, and campaign supporters will head to Durham cathedral to re-enact the tradition of seeking sanctuary. Once again, the little school with the big heart, make a stand, raising the profile of our plight. A bus is organised to leave school at 10am.

9 children and their parents presented council members with christmas cards today. Hoping this will strike a cord with the council cabinet members who will be deciding the fate of the school.
Stakeholders report handed in to Town Hall

Today (Nov 30th) saw the end of the public (pre)consultation stage of the overall TOPS project. Sheila Witte, Rachel Fitzsimons and Myself (Paul Gardner) took copies of our report to Town Hall which we handed over to Mike Dillon who took 30mins out of his busy day to talk to us.
Bad Taste for a Good Cause

All children and staff were invited to attend school on Friday the 16th October in Bad Taste Fancy dress. They were told to come as loud and as silly as they dare and they did not dissapoint!
TOPS Meeting

As part of the consultation process each school got a chance to voice their concerns and questions to the TOPS team during a public meeting. Ourselves and St Bedes were the first two recieve this honour on 29th October 2007.
Save Our School March

Parents and children today took a stand against the proposed closure of Boldon C of E school. More than 100 parents and children marched through South Shields, from the market place, down King Street, up Fowler Street finishing at the town hall.

Church of England schools are few and far between. As this is a C of E controlled school surely the church have a massive input into the debate. Not knowing of the direct involvement - it strikes me that a C of E school cannot come entirely under the ausp
