Key developments

The summer months witnessed some important developments in the campaign to provide Burnham with a non-selective secondary school.

Of particular note was the confirmed support for the campaign by our Buckinghamshire Councillors that represent Burnham and Burnham Parish Council

Further support was demonstrated by Tan Dhesi ( Member of Parliament for Slough) who attended our stand at the Cippenham Car Festival held in July. Tan’s support is of particular importance given the need to develop cross local authority co-operation between Bucks., Slough and Windsor and Maidenhead in supporting the campaign for the new secondary school in Burnham.

The Cippenham Car Festival was just one of the events the campaign team used over the summer to speak with parents/residents. They also attended Burnham Family Fun Day, Burnham Village Fete, Priory School Fete and the Lighthouse Event in August. As expected, parents expressed concern, frustration and anger about the expense, inconvenience and loss of opportunity and ‘community’ their children will face in not having a local secondary school. As a result of our attendance at these events an additional 100+ parents registered their details on www.saveourschool.ork.uk. If you haven’t yet registered we would urge you to please do so. We now have over 750 registrations but many more are still required.

On a final note (and perhaps the most important development in the history of this campaign) we will be taking the voice of our registered parents/residents to our first meeting with the leader of Buckinghamshire Council (Councillor Steven Broadbent) on 14th October 2025. We want to ensure that the need for a secondary school in Burnham is on the agenda of Buckinghamshire Council and that Councillor Broadbent and his team work to produce a new assessment of need based on a number of points not fully considered when the decision was made to close the school in 2019.

We sincerely hope we can report back on a positive outcome from this meeting.

In the interim – thank you for your continued interest and support.
